History of Norwegian Båtservice

 

Today’s Båtservice was founded in August 1948 at Westermoen Båtbyggeri AS in Mandal on the south coast of Norway. The company was subsequently renamed Båtservice Verft AS in 1964. The initial production of this company was formed in the shipyard, which included small pleasure boats.

  1. In 1949, Båtservice contracted with the Royal Norwegian Navy to design and manufacture the prototype for the “Rapp” MTB.
    After the torpedo boats, the company continued to deliver three US AMS-60 class minesweepers.
    A total of 42 MTB ships of the “Tjeld” class were built for the Royal Norwegian Navy, the West German Navy, the US Navy, and the Greek Navy. In addition, six “Snøgg” class MTBs were built and delivered.
  1. Båtservice’s first civilian steel vessel was a small vessel ordered by Stavangerske DS, built and delivered in 1955.
    The company’s products also include car/trailer vessels, heavy vessels, tugs, barges and chemical tank carriers. From this period onwards, Båtservice delivered approximately 100 vessels ranging in size from 299 BRT to 1599 BRT.
    It should also be noted that this company has made a number of fishing boats from plastic, wood and steel. One of the major projects was the construction and delivery of 20 units – 45 feet patrol boats to the Indian Customs Service.

Båtservice Shipyard has been able to adapt to the needs of today’s modern markets by delivering onshore and offshore. In 1972, Båtservice delivered the first Norwegian-built offshore supply vessel to a German customer. In addition, a number of vessels were built and delivered for standby, seismic and ROV survey purposes. Over the past 20 years, the company has focused on building high-speed yachts in lightweight aluminum alloy and, more recently, passenger catamarans in carbon fiber. In recent years, the products have included passenger catamarans, oil pollution cleanup, multi-purpose crew cargo ships, guide vessels and fast search and rescue vessels.

Also, the subsidiary of this company named Båtservice Contracting as was established in 1987.

The focus of this company is on the offshore oil and gas sector, which includes design, commissioning, engineering and consulting in oil and gas projects. Båtservice Contracting as has been able to complete and deliver more than 80 projects in the offshore sector to its customers.
